Prince of the Universe, Chapter 2
Dragon Slayer
Through the crackle of the camp fire, the mighty warrior was boasting: "Arh! tis was only last week , 6 dragons i had slain! And i still had time for the virgins i had saved! Har har har!"
The roar of laughter grew around the camp fire as each man shared their martial prowness.
All but one... A man whose face was hidden by his cloak and his soul, hidden by shadow. When it finally came his turn to tell his tall tales of adventure, he just sat there silently... "Why don't you tell us what great deeds one such as you have done?!" shouted one of the warriors. "Har! I bet ye a silver coin he hasn't so much as hunted a boar!"
Hollered another. Once again the roar of laughter grew... Then the man stood up, and the camp fell silent... "Thy Deeds are nothing... Ye foolish knights. Does thou imagine that thy deeds are worth its words in gold?! Nay i tell you... Thy deeds are but a grain of sand in the beaches of eternity. No one shall remember thy deeds for more than thy lifespan!"
The warriors looked at each other, shocked at what the man had to say. But before they could object, he continued. "Lo, the dragons that roam the skys are easy to slay. I've been slaying them since i was a boy. But the real dragons, are the dragons in thy soul. The ones that burn ye heart and tear it to pieces. Even one such as i, cannot slay them. And so, every day i am tormented by the dragons in my soul. They never die, they never go away. Tell me brave knight, How does one kill a foe that cannot be killed? The dragons never go away. But more always come. They come till your soul is filled and filled till it burst open."
With that, the man turned around and walked off into the night. Shadows enveloping him as he disappeared. The warriors and knights in the camp were shocked silent and there they sat... Till night turned to day and day to night... Days turned into weeks and weeks into months. Months turned to years and years turned to centuries.
